Getting Started:

You will be directed to READ / REACT / RESPOND.

Look for the author's unique style and the voice used to tell the story.

Watch the story unfold as you get to know the main character / narrator and the supporting characters.

Notice how details and descriptions about the setting and story events make this "realistic fiction" story come alive.

Be actively involved in the story and develop your reading skills as you focus on:

  • OPINION: What do you personally think about what has just happened in the story?

  • PREDICTION: What do you think is going to happen next? Why?

  • PERSONALIZED RESPONSE: If you were the character, what would you do in this situation?

  • QUESTION: Answer a reading guide question or ask a question of your own about something you would like to know.

  • EMOTIONAL RESPONSE: Tell about something you read that made you feel angry, sad, happy, etc.

  • INFERENTIAL RESPONSE: Come to a conclusion by putting some of the key facts together. Will you be correct?

  • KEEPING ON READING: Be compelled to continue reading to find out what will happen next and ultimately how the story is resolved.
